I was lucky enough to be invited to Finkle & Green’s pre-launch night last week, and it didn’t disappoint! Finkle & Green is the latest addition to Stockton’s cultural quarter and I think it’s just what was needed, there’s tonnes of micro pubs (that’s not a bad thing) but I think it was lacking in places to eat really good quality food.
When I found out Mohujos by the River was closing, I was gutted. I thought that it would be another building left but little did we know it would be totally transformed by the owners of Finkle & Green. I absolutely love Stockton, and I’m so glad a new and exciting place has decided to place their business in Stockton!
While the owners were transforming the building I kept an eye out on social media and peeked in every time I walked past, so when I was invited for their pre-launch night I couldn’t wait to see inside and of course taste the food.
The space is totally unrecognisable, it’s spacious yet cosy and the interior is elegant, modern and simple. Everyone who I spoke to at the event loved the look and feel of the place and they couldn’t believe the difference. Whilst we chattered away, lots of samples of the menu were being served. I stayed after the event and had a 3 course meal but obviously it didn’t stop me sampling the menu previously.
On to the food!
One of the food samples I tried was goats cheese with a honey and walnut dressing, it was that good I decided to get it for my starter and I’m not going to lie it’s my favourite goats cheese starter I’ve ever had! Who knew goats cheese, walnuts and honey would go so well?
For main I went for the pork belly and chorizo cassoulet, it’s something that I usually wouldn’t of chosen and I don’t know why I went for it, but nevertheless it was full of flavour, different textures and I loved the presentation too.
For dessert, I actually can’t have dairy, I know you’re thinking I’ve reviewed probably every afternoon tea in Teesside but I can’t resist them, and also I can eat goats cheese just an FYI haha. They didn’t have the vegan options available (it was the pre-launch, there’s no hate here) but instead they made me a rhubarb crumble topped with granola, I haven’t had rhubarb in forever and it’s made me love it again. It was lovely of them to make a dessert on the spot and it tasted like a dream. The rest of the table ordered amazing desserts and there wasn’t a crumb left on anyone’s plates.
I definitely recommend booking a table, I’m already going back on Saturday – I have no shame. They have a vegan menu, as well as vegetarian and gluten free options too! The menus have a mix assortment of things, from burgers to jerk chicken to pies. It’s definitely a pleaser if you need somewhere to eat with people that have different tastes in food, so take note. It’s really good value, great quality and plus you get to have a view of the river.
Let me know if you have visited or you are going to!
